Community Xeriscaping

Reynolds Farm is committed to sustainable landscaping through xeriscaping—a method of landscaping that reduces or eliminates the need for supplemental water from irrigation.

As a townhouse community in Colorado's semi-arid climate, transitioning our shared spaces to xeriscaped designs helps us conserve water, reduce maintenance costs, and provide a beautiful, resilient environment for all residents.

What is Xeriscaping?

Xeriscaping is not just "rocks and cactus." It is based on seven fundamental principles:

  • Plan and design for water conservation.
  • Improve the soil with organic matter.
  • Limit turf areas to where they provide functional benefits.
  • Use appropriate plants that are drought-tolerant or native.
  • Use mulches (wood or rock) to keep roots cool and minimize evaporation.
  • Irrigate efficiently based on plant needs.
  • Maintain the landscape through proper weeding and pruning.
Benefits for Our Community
  • Lower Utility Costs: Reduced water usage directly lowers the association's water bills.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Less mowing and fertilizing compared to traditional blue-grass turf.
  • Native Habitats: Xeriscaped areas provide food and shelter for local pollinators like bees and butterflies.
  • Year-Round Interest: Using a variety of shrubs, grasses, and perennials provides color and texture in every season.
